Get Help

Navigating the maze of information on care options and benefits is time consuming and overwhelming. Our Senior Advocates and Service Coordinators work with older adults, their families and caregivers to connect them with available resources and care options with the goal of helping them stay independent, enjoy an improved quality of life, and remain connected to their community. Here are topics we can help with:

Be a Fan to a Senior (May-September)

While many of us look forward to the hazy, lazy days of summer it can be an extremely dangerous time of year for older adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 40 percent of annual heat-related deaths occur in those 65 years of age and older.

Area seniors in need of heat relief should contact CASI at 563.386.7477. Fans are distributed to individuals over the age of 50 with photo I.D. Due to high demand for this program, only one fan per household is available.

Senior SECRET Santa
(November and early December)

We like it when you can’t keep a secret . . . and this is a secret we must share. The need to help many Quad Cities area senior citizens continues to grow throughout our region. And many older adults spend the holidays alone in their homes with little to no friend or family support.

It’s estimated that more than 50% of adults report feeling lonely during the holiday season. This feeling can be intensified for older adults who have lost loved ones over the years. Many seniors report not leaving their homes and not receiving any visitors or gifts during the holiday season.

At The Center for Active Seniors, Inc. (CASI), we see many older adults whose gift list consists of everyday household and personal care items such as laundry soap, socks, pajamas or new under garments. They are not looking for extravagant gifts costing hundreds of dollars. They are hoping for items of everyday comfort and care as well as the warm feelings brought by spending time with those who care for them. Our Senior Secret Santa program funds holiday gifts for seniors.

Wellness Care

CASI offers a variety of health and wellness services including:

  • Monthly Blood Pressure Checks
  • SHIIP: Senior Health Insurance Informational Program

Free Community Advocacy Service

CASI’s Senior Advocates and Service Coordinators help families navigate through the maze of information on care options and available benefits for older adults. The goal of the program is to help adults stay independent, enjoy quality of life, and remain connected to the community. Meetings with senior advocates are private and confidential unless permission to share is given by the older adults and/or a caregiver with Power of Attorney privileges.

Client Testimonials

“My parents are getting to the point where they need some help to stay in their home and I want them to live there as long as they can. I live out of town and was not sure where to get help. A friend suggested calling CASI. A Senior Advocate visited with my parents, gave them information on services, and they are now getting home delivered meals. I know I have a reliable source that I can call anytime I have concerns about my mom and dad.”

“It seems like each month the money coming in doesn’t stretch as far as it used to. I called CASI to ask if any help was available. I met with a Senior Advocate who connected me with some programs and benefits that have helped me out financially.”
